DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS

THE DISCOVERY CHARTER SCHOOL CONTINUES TO COLLECT the family and staff surveys distributed two weeks ago.  We are in the process of compiling the survey data and summarizing all of the comments.  We will publish the results of the collected data and comments and share them with our families.  This is your opportunity to guide us in the changes that you would like to see as we enter into our second year of Discovery Charter School and we plan to double the size of our programs.  We sent home one survey for each family and one to each staff member.  If you did not receive a survey, please contact our school office.

We have received the results of the NEVADA STATE WRITING PROFICIENCY TESTS ADMINISTERED AT THE 5TH AND 8TH GRADES AT BOTH CAMPUSES.   All results have been mailed home to the families of the participating students, and for the first time we completed all writing tests on line.  AS we mailed out the results, for the first time, the families have copies of the student writing submissions so that they can see what their students wrote.  We had 18 5th grade students submit writing, with one student exceeding the standards, 8 students meeting the state standards, 8 students approaching the state standards, and one student in the writing development stage.

We tested a total of 11 8th grade students with one student exceeding the state standards, 6 students meeting the state standards, 3 students approaching the state standards, on one student in the writing development stage.

WE have a great opportunity to be a school that dedicates itself to high amounts of writing experiences through our project based curriculum.   As we finish this year, and plan for next year, we are pressing our students to understand the concept of ALWAYS LEARNING:  AND THAT MEANS ALWAYS READING, ALWAYS WRITING, ALWAYS COUNTING, AND ALWAYS THINKING.
